Team Dynamics

Priorities: winning, learning, fun, or something else?

Winning

Learning

Fun

???

Oligarchy, Authoritarianism

Mentor-centric

Student-aided

Complete work as efficiently as possible, sideline anything that slows the build process

Meritocracy, Pluralism

Mentor-aided

Student-centric

Take time, learn as much as possible, do things that might not be the most efficient but may result in other gains

Direct Democracy, Libertarianism

Student-centric

Be goofy, get work done but make it as interesting and cooperative as possible

Do we need a team President and a full Cabinet, just an elected Team Captain, or no student administration whatsoever?

Who will decide who needs to perform the tasks at hand (parceling out the work)?

Roles: Defined or Fluid?

Defined

Fluid

Members are assigned groups according to ability, interest, and available positions

Tasks are delegated to different groups, each of whom must work towards completing their tasks

Upside: Efficient (Members always work with same people), Shared workload

Downside: Unhappiness due to lack of freedom, Member abilities may not be fully exploited

Members change position depending on the task at hand

Tasks are divided among all members according to member ability and interest

Upside: Members are happy doing what they want, Member abilities are fully exploited

Downside: Very-able members get greatest workload, Less-skilled members do little work
