Community Outreach
Middletown Robotics is more than just a robotics team. In fulfilling our primary goal of providing for a brighter future, we actively take part in events throughout our community.
Big Ball
At Big Ball, team members worked for several hours in both the concession stands and manning the carnival games. They bonded with each other, including with several new students, and had lots of fun in the process. Middletown Robotics also took part in a "Big Ball game," a easy-going version of softball with a very large ball that is played for charity.
Read Aloud
In the fall of 2006, Middletown Robotics came together with the MOE team from northern Delaware to provide support for a MOE-hosted read-aloud. Taking place in the Appoquinimink school library, it welcomed young children from the area to come and learn about robots and engineers.
Homecoming Cleanup
Knowing that the MHS homecoming dance was going to be a packed event, the team decided to take a role in cleanup the next morning. Lights, balloons, palm trees — they were all taken down and preserved for future use.
Lego League
In addition to previously having mentored two Lego League teams in 2004, Middletown Robotics has begun visiting and aiding a new Lego League team started at Meredith Middle School in Middletown, DE. The 6th, 7th, and 8th graders on the Lego League team are bright-eyed, ambitious individuals, striving to succeed in their own branch of FIRST's competitions. Having already constructed a test playing field, they are now building a robot using Lego's new programmable NXT kits and will compete as early as January.
